Admission Requirements

Admissions Requirements – Georgian Court University at Hazlet

We currently offer degree-completion programs designed for individuals who already have some prior college experience. Most of these programs should take two to three years to complete, depending on your course load—for example, students who opt to pursue teacher certification along with their degree will most likely need more time to graduate.

General Admission Requirements

If you do not wish to pursue teaching certification with your degree, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of an associate degree or at least 60 transferable credits. You may transfer up to 75 credits from Brookdale or another two-year institution, and up to 90 credits from a four-year institution, or a combination of all sources. We will consider transfer credits from regionally-accredited institutions, military training (with appropriate transcripts) and CLEP examinations. For more information about transfer credits, see below.

  • 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (from all previous colleges attended).

Dual Elementary Teacher Certification and Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement Requirements

If you want to prepare for teacher certification, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of an associate degree or at least 60 transferable credits. You may transfer up to 75 credits from Brookdale or another two-year institution, and up to 90 credits from a four-year institution, or a combination of all sources. We will consider transfer credits from regionally-accredited institutions, military training (with appropriate transcripts) and CLEP examinations. For more information about transfer credits, visit our transfer credit information page.

  • 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (from all previous colleges attended).

  • Passing scores on Praxis CORE reading, writing and mathematics exams or SAT exam (a passing score on the SAT is a combined score of 1660).

  • A Mantoux Test (tuberculosis screening; also known as a TB or PPD test) taken within the last three years.

  • Completed interview with GCU School of Education representatives.

We will give additional consideration to students with a New Jersey Substitute Teaching License. We strongly recommend you also complete a federal fingerprint check. Information regarding the federal fingerprint check is available here.

Prerequisite Courses

Each degree program includes a list of prerequisite courses you must take before beginning your GCU courses. Visit our individual program pages for more information.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

We are proud to be one of New Jersey’s most transfer-friendly institutions. We will consider you for admission if you have an associate degree from an accredited community college or at least sixty transferable credits from another accredited institution. You must have earned a grade of “C” or higher in any course in order for it to be eligible for transfer.

Prior to making your application, we strongly encourage you to visit NJTransfer.org in order to gauge approximately how many of your courses may transfer. For more information about the types of credit we consider, please visit our transfer credit information page.

Note:

Effective Fall 2016, graduates of an accredited New Jersey community college who have earned an A.A. or A.S. degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and have completed the general education requirements established in the statewide agreement will transfer those general education credits in full to satisfy a minimum of 45 (A.A.) or 30 (A.S.) credits of the Georgian Court General Education Requirements.

Again, only courses in which you have earned a grade of “C” or higher are eligible for transfer.

If you have questions about transfer credit eligibility or any of our admissions requirements for the Hazlet program, please contact our admissions department at 737-987-2220.
